Nizhniy Novgorod District


Nizhniy Novgorod District is favorably situated at a distance of 360 kilometers from Moscow in the central part of Russia in the Middle Volga region at the intersection of two great rivers - Volga and Oka. The population of the region runs to 3, 72 million; 1, 5 million live in its capital - Nizhniy Novgorod. Nizhniy Novgorod takes the third place in population in Russia, yielding only to Moscow and Saint-Petersburg.

Nizhniy Novgorod District is one of the economically developed and the richest regions of Russian Federation and the largest industrial centers of the country. Though the district doesn't possess significant raw materials resources, the economic of the region is developing dy-namically, especially its human services area. Nizhniy Novgorod District gets into ten of the Russian regions according to the volume of production produced by manufacturing enterprises.

The unique scientific and technical potential of its military-industrial establishment in combination with strong educational basis allows Nizhniy Novgorod District and Nizhniy Nov-gorod to take the forth place in Russia in innovational potential. The region government politics, aimed to business support, the advantageous geographical position and developed infrastructure furthers in many respects active integration of the district to the system of the international eco-nomical relations. Nizhniy Novgorod District maintains foreign trade relations with 115 coun-tries of the world, attracts actively Russian and international investors. At the same time small-scale business in which more then one forth part of active population of the region is engaged makes significant contribution on the economic of the region.

At present time more then 36 institutions of higher education are working at the territory of the Nizhniy Novgorod District and Nizhniy Novgorod city (16 of them are the branches and representatives of educational institutions from other cities). A general number of students in Nizhniy Novgorod district and Nizhniy Novgorod comes to 100, 000 (at the number of young people aged from 14 tо 30 more then 895,500 that is 25,7% from the general number of popula-tion. The most popular studying areas are jurisprudence, business and management, humanities, technical specialties.



Perm District


Perm District is situated in the east of the European part of Russia. The population of the region amounts averages about 3 million, 1 million lives in the capital of the district - in Perm city.

Perm District has rich oilfields, coal-fields, potassium and magnesium salts fields, coal and oil production, extraction of gold and diamonds are well developed in the region. That fact is the reason for Perm district to be among the richest regions-donors of Russia that provide the prosperity of the country.

Perm District is one of the leading regions in mechanical engineering, especially in the production of rocket-space technics, oil, gas, coal, timber, pulp and paper industries equipment.

Chemistry and petrochemistry industries comes second (chemical fertilizes, hydrate of sodium, soda ash, synthetic dyes and resin, plastic, varnish and paints are produced in the re-gion). The timber and pulp and paper industries, ferrous and non-ferrous metallurgy are also highly developed in Perm district.

The stable growth of the industry production attracts more and more investments to Perm District and Perm. Perm region and its capital are characterized by high level of business devel-opment, especially of small-scale-business. The cash income of the people rise for 26% per year on average for the last years and the predictable increase of the real cash income of the popula-tion of the region will amount to 122, 7%.

At the moment 17 state institutions of higher education with technical and economical guidelines and non-governmental educational institutions are working in Perm and Perm District. The number of the students of all these institutions comes to 185 000 (the total number of the youth aged from 16 to 22 is about 550 000). The majority of the educational institutions intro-duce the multilevel system of professional education providing not only specialists but also bachelors and masters preparation. The opening of new scientific research institutes on the ba-sis of educational institutions manifests dynamical development of the higher education struc-ture, its activity area expanding.



The Republic of Bashkortostan (Ufa)


The Republic of Bashkortostan takes up the biggest part of the Southern Ural and border-ing upon it the plains of Bashkir fore-Ural and Bashkir trans-Ural. The population of the republic (at the total area of 143 000 square kilometers) is 4, 1 million. The main part of the population lives in the capital of the republic - in Ufa city.

Today Bashkortostan is one of the leading industrial and agricultural regions of Russian Federation. The diversified economy of the republic has the high level of integrated develop-ment. First of all it is large-scale industry, large-scale agriculture, active building, finance and credit, scientific and technical fields. Bashkortostan ranks among first ten of the subjects of Rus-sian Federation at the gross regional product and the main macro economical activities and heads the list at the number of positions.

Bashkortostan is one of the largest producers of oil-refining, chemistry and petrochemis-try production. Moreover, the republic is high on the list of synthetic resin and plastic output and produces the half of All-Russian volume of soda ash, butyl and isobutyl alcohol. Many industrial enterprises of Baskortostan and Ufa are recognized to be the best exporters of Russia that is evi-dence of the competitive ability of chemistry and petrochemistry production at home as well as at the foreign market.

Small-scale business is also developing actively in Bashkortostan and Ufa: there are about 130 000 objects of small-scale undertakings, besides more then 5 000 farms are working in the region. The system of high professional education is functioning stably. During the period of the years 2005 - 2006 12 state independent institutions of higher education and 17 branches of state educational institutions of Moscow, Samara, Chelyabinsk, Ekaterinburg, Orenburg has been accomplishing the preparation of the specialists with high professional education in the republic and in its capital. The teaching is held in 43 studying areas and in 230 specialties. The number of the students comes to 130 000 at the youth number aged from 16 to 22 of 300 000.

Along with the state educational institutions independent non-governmental institutes of higher education and branches of non-governmental Moscow institutions are working in the re-gion. The tendency of increase number of students at the state institutions of higher education and decrease of its number in the non-governmental institutions remains in Baskortostan and Ufa.
